How Deal Scoring Works

Comprehensive breakdown of how VinylHunter.uk calculates deal scores and estimates potential resale margins for UK vinyl records.

1. The Scoring Formula Overview

VinylHunter.uk scans live UK eBay listings and cross-references them with Discogs marketplace data to find records selling for significantly less than their market value. Every listing is awarded a numerical score based on multiple positive signals and caution flags. The higher the score, the more confident we are that the listing represents a genuine opportunity.

We filter the dashboard to show only Used deals scoring 90 or higher and New deals scoring 70 or higher.

2. Points Added to a Score (Positive Signals)

3. Points Deducted (Caution Flags)

4. Deal Ratings Explained (HOT, GOOD, WATCH, SKIP)

A high score alone is not enough — the listing must also deliver a positive estimated margin after calculating asking price and shipping:

5. Reseller Metrics: Risk & Liquidity Scores

Every deal card displays key reseller metrics to help vinyl collectors quickly evaluate capital risk and expected turnaround speed:

6. Score Gates & Push Notifications

We require Used deals to score 90+ and New deals to score 70+ to ensure multiple strong indicators of value are present. Real-time push notifications to Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram are strictly reserved for top-tier Used deals scoring 95 or higher.
